The LNP Baird government started this process in 2016: https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/historic-sydney-harbour-island-to-be-restored-handed-back-to-indigenous-landowners-20220528-p5ap8d.html This has been in progress for several years. It was not an election issue as it was already in motion, by the then government (now opposition). It has bi-partisan support.
