While it would be amazing if dire wolves were truly recreated, these pups were created with mostly grey wolf DNA. Just 20 gene edits out of over 2 billion base pairs helped the pups resemble dire wolves but they are not dire wolves reborn, as noted in the New Scientist article. https://www.newscientist.com/article/2475407-no-the-dire-wolf-has-not-been-brought-back-from-extinction/
