Original Note:
A study conducted in 2020 suggests that because most plant life is burnt or damaged, their roots can no longer absorb water, which normally slows/stops mudslides. This along with waxy residue increases water traveling on the surface of the ground, causing mudslides. https://dornsife.usc.edu/news/stories/mudslides-and-floods-after-wildfires/
