Original Note:
The $3M figure was the result of a calculation error that conflated all research grants associated with David Scholnick and wasn’t specific to the shrimp research. Scholnick paid $47 out-of-pocket for the first shrimp treadmill and $1,000 for the second one. https://archive.ph/ea0dn https://web.archive.org/web/20210727053132/https://aaas.confex.com/aaas/2017/webprogram/Paper19161.html https://web.archive.org/web/20250129144023/https://burnettl.people.charleston.edu/research/treadmill.php https://web.archive.org/web/20240914150520/https://grist.org/article/what-a-shrimp-treadmill-can-teach-us-about-science-funding/ https://web.archive.org/web/20240627230621/https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/republicans-attempt-to-use-mockery-to-cut-sound-science/ https://web.archive.org/web/20220906095541/https://www.snexplores.org/article/shrimp-treadmills-some-science-only-sounds-silly https://web.archive.org/web/20241229130501/https://www.npr.org/2011/08/23/139852035/shrimp-on-a-treadmill-the-politics-of-silly-studies
