Original Note:

BT corn has genes from the bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis that produce specific proteins called Cry toxins. When certain insects eat it, the toxin binds to receptors in their gut, causing the gut wall to break down: https://lgpress.clemson.edu/publication/managing-insect-pests-in-field-corn-using-transgenic-bt-technology/ https://entomology.ca.uky.edu/ef130 Research has shown that BT corn is safe for humans: https://www.entsoc.org/sites/default/files/files/Science-Policy/2018/ESA-Factsheet-Bt.pdf https://www.news.iastate.edu/news/2018/12/11/antigmosentimentinafrica https://19january2021snapshot.epa.gov/sites/static/files/2015-08/documents/are_bt_crops_safe.pdf
