The proposed note misunderstands the meaning of 'real wage' which is purchasing power parity adjusted. The comparison to grocery inflation is essentially double counting as PPP includes groceries. https://www.statista.com/statistics/243842/annual-mean-wages-and-salary-per-employee-in-the-us/ Actual averages wages in 2000 were just over 39k not nearly 60k
