Original Note:
USA was founded as a republic, not a democracy. Article II, Section 1, Clause 2 of the Constitution provide the framework for the Electoral College process. It was ratified in 1788, along with the 7 other articles. This would require a constitutional amendment. https://constitutingamerica.org/90day-fp-republic-or-democracy-classical-history-republican-governing-as-adopted-united-states-american-revolutionary-war-guest-essayist-jay-mcconville/ https://www.merriam-webster.com/grammar/democracy-and-republic https://guides.loc.gov/law-electoral-college/primary-sources#:~:text=Article%20II%2C%20Section%201%2C%20Clause,for%20the%20Electoral%20College%20process. https://constitutioncenter.org/the-constitution/articles#:~:text=The%20seven%20articles%20make%20up,Ratification https://www.archives.gov/federal-register/constitution
