Photographed is the lynching of Thomas Shipp and Abraham Smith, who were accused of killing Claude Deeter and raping his girlfriend Mary Ball on August 7, 1930. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynching_of_Thomas_Shipp_and_Abram_Smith Mary testified later that she was not raped, but James Cameron, who was also there, said they had killed Deeter. https://calendar.eji.org/racial-injustice/aug/7
