Original Note:

It isn't illegal for POTUS to fire the IRS Commissioner. Sec 1102 of the IRS Restructuring and Reform Act of 1998 established that the Commissioner may be removed at the will of the president. There are also no conditions on a president's authority to remove the FBI director. https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/PLAW-105publ206/pdf/PLAW-105publ206.pdf https://sgp.fas.org/crs/misc/R41850.pdf
