It is generally accepted approaching bears is extremely dangerous and should not be done. Bears are fast and claws razor sharp. They are very protective of cubs and aggressive during mating season. Try to remain calm if approached by a bear, they just want to be left alone. https://www.nps.gov/subjects/bears/safety.htm
