Original Note:

The absolute total of deaths through natural catastrophes has remained reasonably constant with a slight decrease. Around 50,000 people on average die each year. However, relative to population, death tolls have decreased significantly from 1900-2015 due to better warnings. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/04/160418092043.htm https://ourworldindata.org/natural-disasters#not-all-deaths-are-equal-how-many-deaths-make-a-natural-disaster-newsworthy
