Archaeological sites of Moriori origin were well documented on mainland NZ until the 1990’s when the Maori re-wrote history. Currently the Maori only acknowledge they exterminated the Moriori on Chatham island. Maori’s also get very annoyed if anyone mentions the Moriori. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moriori_genocide
