Original Note:
The common ancestors of both Māori and Moriori were the first inhabitants of Aoteroea, arriving in 1200–1300 and did not diverge until later when the Moriori reached Rēkohu and Rangihaute around 1500. The Moriori genocide did not occur until 1835, after European contact. https://e-tangata.co.nz/reflections/moriori-still-setting-the-record-straight/ https://thespinoff.co.nz/atea/03-08-2018/the-moriori-myth-and-why-its-still-with-us https://www.live-work.immigration.govt.nz/live-in-new-zealand/history-government/a-brief-history
