Original Note:
Airlines have tamped down on CO2 emissions by flying at higher altitudes. In doing so, the higher-flying aircraft are creating more contrails that last longer. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/aircrafts-contrails-climate-change/ The thinner air at high altitudes create less aerodynamic drag, allowing them to burn less fuel, and emit less CO2. https://phys.org/news/2024-08-modern-aircraft-emit-carbon-older.html
