Original Note:
The bluish/purple lightning you see shooting up from the top of the cumulonimbus cloud is called a 'blue jet'. The electrical discharge excites nitrogen gas causing the blue hue. https://www.albany.edu/faculty/rgk/atm101/sprite.htm https://www.esa.int/Science_Exploration/Human_and_Robotic_Exploration/Genesis_of_blue_lightning_into_the_stratosphere_detected_from_the_International_Space_Station https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/147900/bolts-of-blue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSNwG_BUwok https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upper-atmospheric_lightning
