Original Note:
Lithium-ion batteries in EV react differently to submersion compared to combustion engines. When lithium contacts saltwater, a rapid chemical reaction occurs, releasing hydrogen gas and heat. Reports of combustion engines fires soley due to water submersion are rare. https://www.nhtsa.gov/hurricane-and-flood-damaged-vehicles https://www.nfpa.org/downloadable-resources/safety-alert/submerged-hybrid-electric-vehicles https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2542435118302800 https://fsri.org/research/fire-safety-batteries-and-electric-vehicles
