Original Note:
Violet, arguably a purple hue, is present on the visible spectrum (monochromatic) and, therefore, does ‘exist’. Magenta, a shade of purple, however, is the mixture of red and blue light and is not on the visible spectrum making it an ‘extra-spectral colour’. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magenta https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purple https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Violet_(color) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spectral_color#Extra-spectral_colors
