Original Note:

The moon doesn’t produce its own light. It only shines at night because the sun’s light reflects off its surface. Without the sun, the moon would remain dark and invisible to us. So, while the moon is important, its light is entirely dependent on the sun. https://science.nasa.gov/moon/moonlight/
