Slavic word SÅ‚owianie/Slavs means "word" or "glory". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavs_(ethnonym) because tribes used similar words. (In contrast to term for Germans is Niemcy = "mute") Latin is homonim by accident. English term rooted from from Slavic slaves trade. Don't fall for anglosaxon "we know all the best" trap.
