Original Note:

2003, six asylum seekers took legal action against the then-Labour government in the High Court. Keir Starmer - a barrister at the time, not a politician - and two other barristers represented five of the asylum seekers in the court case. They challenged this act. https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2002/41/section/55/enacted http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2778581.stm https://www.logicallyfacts.com/en/fact-check/misleading-no-keir-starmer-did-not-take-the-government-to-court-demanding-benefits-be-extended-to-illegal-immigrants https://fullfact.org/online/keir-starmer-court-illegal-immigrants/ https://www.reuters.com/fact-check/asylum-seeker-quote-falsely-attributed-britains-starmer-2024-01-19/
