Original Note:

The USSR lost 27 million in WW2 - 8.7 million military and 18 million civilians. This number refers to all citizens of the Soviet Union, not just those of the Russian SFSR. The RSFSR, which had more than half the USSR population, lost close to 5.5 million. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_casualties_of_the_Soviet_Union https://www.nationalww2museum.org/students-teachers/student-resources/research-starters/research-starters-worldwide-deaths-world-war
