Original Note:

The Confederate flag was first flown by people fighting against the U.S. to preserve slavery. It was repopularized by segregationists in 1954 when Brown v Board desegregated schools, and has been used as an emblem of racism since then, including in the Jan 6 attacks. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/history/article/how-confederate-battle-flag-became-symbol-racism https://acwm.org/blog/myths-misunderstandings-confederate-flag/
