Serbia came under the Ottomans 1459 1718-1739 S. was under the rule of Austria 1804-1813 & 1815-1817 S. was free → Serbian Revolution In 1830, S. became an autonomous principality Serbia became in fact independent in 1867, by law in 1878 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serbia#Middle_Ages
