Britain ruled the lands that are now Israel/Palestine in the form of a mandate from 1920 to 1948 and then gave up the mandate. It was also Britian who supported bringing the Jews to the land & creation of Israel in the first place after conquering the lands from the Ottomans. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandatory_Palestine
