The term "Serial Killer" became fashionable in the 1970/80s when the term was first popularised by FBI Agent Robert K. Ressler. This graph is misleading, and clearly affected by a bias to labelling cases in the 1970s onwards as "Serial Killings", unlike in the decades prior. https://www.psychologytoday.com/intl/blog/shadow-boxing/201410/who-coined-serial-killer
