This was not a peaceful protest. Protestors broke into and vandalized a building and had held janitorial staff hostage. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13368143/amp/columbia-university-janitor-protest-hamilton-hall.html Police in this instance responded with minimal force and suggesting police be unarmed because of the age of the criminal is ridiculous.
