Original Note:
The US may not have a federal inheritance tax - but does have a federal estate tax - which sometimes also is in a loose manner of speaking called an inheritance tax or death duty. Rates are now close to 40%. But it has been 55% before - for instance in 2001. https://www.calculator.net/estate-tax-calculator.html?residence=100%2C000%2C000&stock=0&saving=0&vehicle=0&retirement=0&lifeinsurance=0&otherasset=0&debt=0&funeral=0&charitable=0&statetax=0&lifetimegifted=0&x=Calculate
