Iran's proxies Hezbollah & IJO bombed and destroyed the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires in 1992, killing 4 Israelis and 25 Argentines. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992_Buenos_Aires_Israeli_embassy_bombing Given the precedent, it is disdisingenuous to frame Israel's strike on the Iranian consulate as an exceptional escalation of their conflict.
