Original Note:

Melting land ice on the poles would lead to the earth slowing down. However, the rotation of the earth is speeding up. The number of leap seconds has been reduced. So, the effect goes in the other direction. Therefore, the melting of polar land ice cannot be the direct cause. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leap_second https://edition.cnn.com/2024/03/27/climate/timekeeping-polar-ice-melt-earth-rotation/index.html
