A large freighter struck a support column and collapsed the old Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Tampa Bay in 1980. That bridge too was a truss bridge, like the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. https://www.tampabay.com/news/2020/05/06/the-sunshine-skyway-bridge-plunged-into-tampa-bay-40-years-ago/
