The Bail Reform Act, of which this post is critical of, allows for judges to exercise their judgment and require detention or bail in a case like this. https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/facts-bail-reform-new-york-how-pretrial-detention-and-release-works-now Also, murder/manslaughter are felonies which would still require bail/detention, and could have been included charges. https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/laws/PEN/125.20#:~:text=Manslaughter%20in%20the%20first%20degree%20is%20a%20class%20B%20felony.
