This is a crystal structure of T7 RNA polymerase in complex with a DNA template. You can see that it is physically impossible for transcription to switch to the antisense strand mid-sequence. It could only happen at the end of the sequence, which would be after the stop codon. https://www.rcsb.org/structure/1H38
