Donald Trump attempted to keep himself in power after losing in 2020 by trying to get Mike Pence to certify a fraudulent slate of electors which didn't align with the results. Had he succeeded that would have been the end of Democracy since election results wouldn't matter. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trump_fake_electors_plot
