Original Note:

Contrail shadows can be seen when an aircraft passes through a thin layer of cirrus haze. This layer acts as a canvas upon which the shadow is projected. Ice crystals present in the haze layer can further enhance the visual spectacle by creating a 22ยบ halo around the shadow: https://atoptics.co.uk/blog/contrail-shadows/#:~:text=Like%20other%20clouds%2C%20contrails%20cast%20shadows.%20However%2C%20what,lower%20altitude%2C%20but%20the%20reality%20is%20quite%20different.
