The dictionary is not the Irish Constitution. Those are different documents. Article 41.3 of the Constitution states marriage "on which the family is founded". The Supreme Court upheld this view of family being based only on marriage in the recent O'Meara judgement. https://www.irishlegal.com/articles/supreme-court-exclusion-of-father-of-three-from-widowers-contributory-pension-scheme-unconstitutional.
