There has been a rapid increase in the past few years, but these numbers are deceptive. The years 2017-2020 use the numbers from "U.S. Border Patrol Total Encounters" while the numbers for 2021+ use "Total Enforcement Actions." i.e. Same category 2019 = 1,148,024, not 859,501 https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/cbp-enforcement-statistics
