Original Note:

This is inaccurate. The crew initially chose to fight, but later withdrew and scuttled the ship. They were then rescued by the British “Talbot”, the French “Pascal”, and the Italian “Elba”. Varyag was later raised and entered service as “Soya” in the Japanese Navy. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_cruiser_Varyag_(1899)
