The transatlantic slave trade was not unique, in fact European slaves were sold at African slave markets from the 16th century as part of the Barbary slave trade: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbary_slave_trade There is also the Arab slave trade which has existed since at least the 3rd century BC: https://www.jstor.org/stable/26500685#:~:text=Yet%20the%20arab%20slave%20trade,outlawed%20only%20in%20august%202007.
