Original Note:

It is untrue to say that this has held 'throughout history'. The Victorian era, e.g. , saw progressively *less* liberal attitudes to women, with the rise of 'separate spheres'. The same occurred in the 20s & 30s, when attitudes to women's employment hardened again. https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/historical-journal/article/abs/golden-age-to-separate-spheres-a-review-of-the-categories-and-chronology-of-english-womens-history/BAD618F258B35B87F7D198F8ED74B1A7 https://www.striking-women.org/module/women-and-work/inter-war-years-1918-1939
