While the Blue Jay does not use pigments to color it's feathers it is entirely misleading to call the optical phenomena of structural color an "illusion" when both pigments and structural color rely on absorbing most wavelengths of light besides a target color. https://academy.allaboutbirds.org/how-birds-make-colorful-feathers/
