Original Note:
David Friedman is correct. The city Nablus is a corruption of the Greek word ‘Neapolis’, with the city being renamed from its previous name Shechem in 72AD by the Romans. Shechem had been destroyed several times by the Romans, with the modern city partly built atop its ruins. https://whc.unesco.org/en/tentativelists/5714/#:~:text=The%20city%20of%20Neapolis%20is,of%20the%20Greek%20name%20Neapolis.
