Original Note:

David Fried is correct. The modern name for Nablus can be traced back to the Romans when it was called Flavia Neapolis. Conquered in 636 by Muslims, the city retained its name in the Arabicized form, Nabulus, now Nablus. Therefore the “ancient” city was Roman, not Muslim. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nablus https://www.britannica.com/place/Nablus
