Original Note:

The governor's depiction of a 2022-2023 homicide decrease overlooks the broader context. Since 2019, numerous cities such as LA, NYC and Chicago have seen major increases. These cities had 258, 319 and 491 homicides in 2019. In 2022, Chicago saw an 83% increase from 2021. https://www.rit.edu/liberalarts/sites/rit.edu.liberalarts/files/docs/CRIM%20Resources/Rochester%20Homicide%20Statistics%20Updated%20(2020).pdf https://www.rit.edu/liberalarts/sites/rit.edu.liberalarts/files/docs/CRIM%20Resources/CPSI%20Working%20Paper%202022.01_Homicide%20Paper%201.pdf https://www.rit.edu/liberalarts/sites/rit.edu.liberalarts/files/docs/SOC/CLA_CPSI_2023_WorkingPapers/CPSI%20Working%20Paper%202023.02_2022%20US%20City%20Homicide%20Stats.pdf
