This is Not the clearest image of Mercury ever taken. There were numerous other closer, higher resolution and therefore clearer images taken by Messenger spacecraft, down to a few metres per pixel, showing details of surface, craters, mountains etc. Many if those here, https://photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov/targetFamily/mercury
