Original Note:

It is very unlikely that this is the oldest pub in England. This is a dovecote of c1400 that was resited as a domestic house c1600. It was called The 3 Pigeons in the 1750s and Fighting Cocks by 1807. The ludicrous claim to antiquity was invented in the 1890s. https://www.stalbanshistory.org/social-history/industry/the-enigmatic-history-of-the-fighting-cocks https://twitter.com/jpwarchaeology/status/1738862613612634219 https://www.historyextra.com/period/general-history/britain-england-oldest-pub-where-how-identify/
