The vertical scale doesn’t allow for emissions in the 1800s to be properly displayed. Emissions from coal burning are correctly captured around the year 1900. ~ 800 million short tons were mined in 1905 (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_coal_mining) which would produce ~ 1.6 GT of CO2 emissions.
