The total all cause mortality for New Zealand in 2022 was 38,574. The numbers for 2020 and 2021 were lower. It's simply not plausible in any way that "20%" of the population has died in the last few years. https://www.stats.govt.nz/information-releases/births-and-deaths-year-ended-december-2022-including-abridged-period-life-table/
