Original Note:
The main reason why the United States put an embargo on Japan in 1939 was to protest Japan’s aggression and expansion in China. The United States was opposed to Japan’s invasion of China in 1931 and 1937, and supported China’s resistance throughout the japanese invasion. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prelude_to_the_attack_on_Pearl_Harbor?darkschemeovr=1&safesearch=moderate&setlang=en-XL&ssp=1 https://history.state.gov/milestones/1937-1945/pearl-harbor?ssp=1&darkschemeovr=1&setlang=en-XL&safesearch=moderate https://www.defensemedianetwork.com/stories/the-embargoes-that-blocked-japanese-expansion-and-led-to-war/?ssp=1&darkschemeovr=1&setlang=en-XL&safesearch=moderate
