This post is wrongly implying that in 1997, we did not know the appearance of the earth. As per NASA, “ The Department of Defense Gravity Experiment (DODGE) satellite returned the first color image of the full Earth in August 1967”, thus confirming its shape and appearance. https://www.nasa.gov/history/90-years-of-our-changing-views-of-earth/
