Original Note:

In 1947, the UN Partition Plan would have created an independent Palestine alongside Israel but it was rejected by the Arab population. In 2000, Israel agreed major concessions, including division of Jerusalem, to create a Palestinian state but it was rejected by Arafat. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_Partition_Plan_for_Palestine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000_Camp_David_Summit
